I just finished my first page in Karolina Kubikowska’s Imaginary Friends (2nd revised edition) and I could not be more excited!! I started this piece in September, mostly to see how the paper does with water soluble media (gorgeously!), and then figured I might as well color the whole thing. After laying the base layer, though, I’d let it sit for two months because I was in the mood for Halloween coloring.
When I returned to this piece, just last night, I realised that the earthy, slightly muted colors of the Derwent Drawing colored pencil set were the perfect pencils to finish this piece!
The Derwent Drawing are such a gorgeous pencil with a beautiful laydown of pigment and a lovely texture to them – they feel almost like a pastel pencil, but without all the pastel dust! I combined them with my trusty Derwent Chromaflows for a pop of color on the leaves.
I’m very happy with how this piece turned out- even if I did go a little overboard with my gel pen dots on the leaves! 😉
Tools used:
- Background and basing: Neocolor II
- Pencil work: Derwent Drawing (most of the picture) and Derwent Chromaflow (leaves and branches)
- Other media: white gelly roll
