Pumpkin Portrait

This gorgeous page comes from Halloween by Hanna Karlzon and was one of the main reasons I had to get this book the minute it came out! I followed a tutorial on neocolor II’s for the background and used my Black Widow and Castle Arts Harmonious colored pencils for the portrait.

Honestly, by the time I was done – I was truly and fully DONE. Over it. Officially. I honestly felt like I’d been working on this piece for forever — burning myself out on for multiple times because it was such a big project and I did not use any basing at all. I also had quite a bit of bad luck: although I was very careful with applying washi tape to prevent the right hand page from getting any unwanted color, the paper of that page got damaged pretty badly by the washi tape (I think that page is going to be a coloring salvage mission at a later point…) and me and my neocolor II’s were not on the best of terms while I was working on the background.

However, when all was said and done, I was not just relieved to be done but also proud with what I made. I absolutely love how this page turned out! The background looks right spooky and cool and I’m very pleased with all the tiny ghost friends that keep my Pumpkin Lady company!
